Food & Dining Trends of 2021
Who would have thought 2020 would have played out the way it did? Foreseeing the food and dining trends for 2021 isn’t an easy task. But based on the current market trends, here’s something we think will be the trends of 2021.
- 1. At-home dining
With work from home here to stay, more restaurants are focusing on unique curated experience for people who want to dine at home. Many restaurants run surveys to see what their loyal customers were craving for during the lockdown. Most surveys showed that customer missed the special food that the restaurants served or the way it was presented. To cater to the needs, restaurants are now planning to bring the same experience to home. Most restaurants are planning a DIY kit, masterclass on how to achieve that perfect dessert, or how to make dim sum from the MasterChef at their restaurant.
- Local is here to stay
More restaurants are banking on the local as well as seasonal food to cater to the growing demand of customers. Most customers are looking for seasonal produce and adding more dishes to your menu that cater to these seasonal needs are the right way to go about it. Local produce that is fresh takes precedence over indulgent and exotic food items. Frozen and imported food will take a back seat.
- Cloud Kitchen and Delivery will bloom
With the COVID-19 restrictions, we have seen an upsurge in cloud kitchen and delivery models. This trend will continue and in fact will actually see an over surge. Cloud kitchens suit the needs and are better suited keeping in mind the social distancing norms. It also serves as a better kitchen model as compared to the traditional dine-in restaurants. Cloud kitchen is a great way to minimize costs and save on rent and waiting staff.
- Rise in Hyperlocal food
The trend of regional food is here to grow more in 2021. Selective curries from specific regions are here to make the restaurant menu more exciting. Regional dishes from different parts of India, also called hyperlocal will see a demand, Those wonderful flavors will make them a popular cuisine. India having one of the largest, diverse and complex cuisines in the world, we will see more and more regional restaurants opening in 2021.
- Unique Cocktails
Cocktails infused with umami ingredients may be one of the most forthcoming restaurant trends. Cocktails are no more seen as just a sugary drink. Fat-washed cocktails rocked 2020. With such craze, don’t be surprised if you see ingredients like mushrooms, turmeric, garlic, meat-infused cocktails across major metro cities. Some restaurants also have begun the trend of “umami” cocktails on their revamped menu.
- Single-food Menu
Ever had a constant craze for one particular food? Lot of restaurants are focusing on specializing in one particular dish. This is seen as one of the biggest trends in recent years. Why is it popular? This is because most diners love the simplicity of one-food promise, the quality of the food, eliminates confusion, and is easy to order. These restaurants also focus on comfort-food that banks upon the nostalgia effect for customers which is a big hit.
